My August Playlist.

Okay, okay, I know I probably post way too much about music. But I can't help it, I am obsessed.

So this is my August playlist, songs you really can't miss out on this August, some may be new, some may be old, but I promise they will all be AMAZING! 

1. Nina Nesbitt - Way in the World

Nina Nesbitt is an Edinburgh born singer songwriter. She originally started out as a YouTube singer and her single "Stay Out" reached number 21 in the UK charts in April this year. This song "Way in the World" has a lovely summery feel to it and somehow reminds me of Amy Macdonald.

2. Karmin - Acapella

Karmin are a brilliant two piece from America consisting of Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan, not only do they write amazing music, they also do the BEST covers on YouTube. Their song "Acapella" never fails to get me singing at the top of my lungs.

3. John Newman - Love Me Again

John Newman, an English soul singer, is one of these people that just get me excited as soon as the open their mouth to sing. One of these people who I want to hug so tight that all their bones break. I can NOT even begin to explain my love for John Newman's voice, it's unreal! He has featured on two Rudimental tracks "Feel The Love" and "Not Giving In" but recently released this brilliant track "Love Me Again" on his own. It's just a breath taking song, and don't even get me started on the video!

4. London Grammar - Wasting My Young Years

London Grammar are a chillingly talented rock trio from London, they consist of Hannah Reid (vocals), Dan Rothman (bass) and Dot Major (keyboard, djembe, drums). Their song "Wasting My young Years" is quite different to the first three songs on my playlist, but that's not to say it isn't good!

5. Avicii - Wake Me Up

I never used to rate Avicii (Tim Berling, he's a Swedish DJ). I always thought he was a bit too mainstream/ravey (I know that isn't a word) for me, but this song took me by surprise! "Wake Me Up" is up there in my favourite Summer 2013 songs, it just makes me want to stay up all night partying. I can't help but dance like a freak when it comes on.

6. A*M*E - Heartless

A*M*E (Aminata Kabba) is a Sierra Leone born singer song writer from London. Like John Newman A*M*E is one of these people I can't explain my love for. I love A*M*E more than I love John Newman's voice! I just can't stay composed and professional if her music comes on. When I saw her live I got some interesting looks from other members of the crowd as I sat there almost in tears screaming "I WANT TO SQUEEZE HER SO TIGHT THAT SHE DIES!", her voice just has that affect on me, she is out of this world! This song is a great tune to dance to and anyone who doesn't like it, well I'm sorry, we can't be friends.

I'm going to include the acoustic version on here too so you can really understand her talent!

 

7. Half Moon Run - No More Losing The War

Half Moon Run are a Canadian indie rock band. Devon, Dylan, Conner and Isaac really know how to make music and this song shows it! It's from their album "Dark Eyes" which you should really check out as it is unbelievably good.

8. Ria Ritchie - Wrong Side Of Paradise

 

Ria Ritchie not only has a cool name, but also has an amazing talent for song writing. If you haven't all ready heard of her I pity you, she is incredible! Her song "The Wrong Side of Paradise" has a very catchy chorus and is well worth a listen.

9. Courtney Bennett - Her Covers

I couldn't choose a favourite out of Courtney's originals and covers, so I suggest you have a look at them all. She is a fresh talent from London with some serious attitude, here is her cover of "Do It Like A Dude" by Jessie J.

10. Shannon Saunders - Heart Of Blue

Shannon Saunders is an English singer/song writer who has become quite successful on line on Youtube and Twitter. Her song "Heart of Blue" is a sweet song with a beautiful melody.

11. MS MR - Think of You

 

MS MR are a fantastic New York duo. With the shockingly brilliant vocals of Lizzy Plapinger and producing skills of Max hershenow they are a musical must see! Their latest song "Think of You" is a great song, but you must also listen to Hurricane, I'll put that video on too.

12. Leah Mcfall - Love Her For Her Fire

Leah Mcfall has been my big thing since last Easter, I will never stop supporting her as she deserves all the success she gets! This song "Love her for her fire" really shows off Leah's mind blowing vocal abilities!

13. Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know?

The Arctic Monkeys, need I explain who they are?
Eric Turner (Lead vocals/guitar), Jamie Cook (lead guitar), Nick O'Malley (bass guitar/backing vocals) and Matt Helders (drums/backing vocals) are an Indie Rock band who came together in 2002 in a suburb of Sheffield.

Their new single "Do I Wanna Know?" is a fantastic teaser to their new album "AM" which comes out this September 9th and has really left me wanting more.

So, July is almost over and it has been a pretty damn good month! I discovered a love for many new things this month and I'd like to share them with you.

So here you go, the things that have made me grin this month, enjoy!

1. Boy friends! (Not actual boyfriends, but friends who are boys)

My best friend in the whole wide world ever Eilidhcakes (She's really called Eilidh, but I may start referring to her as Eilidhcakes) has just got back from America, while she was away I had NO IDEA what to do with myself, so I had to turn to my trusty guy mates to waste away my hours with.

I hadn't realised how much I love them all, not in an "I love you so lets get married and have ten children" way, more of an "Damn I love the way you can make me laugh until I think I'm going to be sick!" way. Boys are great, when I'm with my four best friends Eilidh, Rosa Bluebell, Alice and Mara I have a great time but I am no doubt the gobbiest, loudest and most rude of the five of us but when I'm with the guys I don't sound so loud, because they are all crazy!

If this was a couple of years ago I would no way be able to chill with them the way I do now, I most likely would have had a crush on one of them so I would have constantly been trying too hard. But now, I'm so comfortable around them it's like one big family and I'm the little sister. I love making a fool of myself and being able to laugh uncontrollably without worrying about being judged. I've spent many a brilliant afternoon with the boys this summer and it has been great, so that is why they are on the top of my list!

2. Running.

I started running again this month, after not doing it for about a year. I forgot how free it makes you feel, giving you time to think whilst being really good for you at the same time! I adore taking runs down by the river and stopping to sit on the rocks and think, I am a big thinker, sometimes my thoughts scare me but I really do love getting outside so I can have a good old think.

The weather has been brilliant this month so running has been an absolute joy in the evenings, I really hope to keep it up.

3. Lauren Aquilina.

Okay, music was obviously going to be on this list somewhere because music is just aghhhh, I can't even begin to explain how much music means to me. But this girl, she is more than music. She is inexplicably haunting yet comforting and just so insane. Her music has really made me happy this month so you should all check her out!

4. SHOES!
Okay, I'm having a bit of a shoe addiction this month. Shoes have just been making me really happy, that's probably really sad, but it's true!
I finally gave in and bought creepers AND new heels all in one week, but it was a great decision, I not only have new foot wear, but I also feel taller! Great!

And Edinburgh Went WILD!

Sorry, please do excuse the pun in my title!
But yesterday Edinburgh DID go wild, because no other than Jessie J was there!

I was lucky enough to get tickets to see her live last night at Edinburgh Castle, and it's fair to say that it was one of the best nights of my life so far!

Now me being a complete music junkie/music nerd I am always on the look out for new and up and coming artists, so the singer A*M*E has been on my radar for a while now. I first heard of her sometime late last year and have been watching her grow ever since, she is a very genuine girl and I am a HUGE fan! So when I heard she was going to be supporting Jessie I was so incredibly excited! 

The night as a whole was amazing, A*M*E put on an brilliant show and saw me and Alice going nuts for her (I have to say that a lot of people around us were very unenthusiastic) so waved and shouted "I SEE YOU GUYS". At the end of her set Alice and I decided that we would run down to see if we could catch a glimpse of her. I was in high heels (stupid thing to wear to a concert I know) so running down the multiple stairs was a great feat in it's self! But as we reached the bottom of the stairs we saw A*M*E rounding the corner, at this moment I was thinking "I'm never going to see her again so what the hell, go crazy!" So I shout at the top of my lungs "A*M*E?" and she turns round goes "YES?" and me being completely in shock manages to force out a squeaky "We love you!" and to my surprise, instead of her bolting from this panting, red faced, over excited girl as fast as she could she goes "I love you too!" Honestly, the concert could have ended there and I would have been happy! It was the first time that I had almost lost my voice before the main act had even stepped on stage!

During the break between A*M*E's set and Jessie J me and Alice were queuing to try and get to the surprisingly clean toilets when I saw a door open and who should walk past (on the other side of a barrier) but Jessie J, let's just say I screamed, a lot!

The rest of the night was amazing, Jessie is just such a brilliant performer and really knows how to get a crowd on her side! At one point she even had us chanting people's names from in the crowd "STEVE, STEVE, STEVE, STEVE, STEVE. NATASHA, NATASHA, NATASHA!"

The atmosphere was amazing, I cried ("Who You Are" really is such an emotional song), laughed, danced, screamed and sang very out of tune! The backdrop of the castle was just so breath taking and as the sun began to go down it felt unreal! 

There was a darling of a girl sitting in front of us, she must have been about seven years old and she talked to us through out the whole show. I have never met someone so sweet!

The whole concert went by in a blur! Alice and I ran up and down the stairs so many times as we couldn't bare to miss a good story opportunity! By the end of the night we had managed to talk to A*M*E, the backing singers and Jessie's best friend Hollie. We also saw Jessie come out of her changing room twice, stalkers much! And made some good friends, and possibly a lot of enemies, if looks could kill me and Alice would have been shot down multiple times, people did't like our enthusiasm!

But I can't complain as I had the most wonderful night, and one I will never forget!

I will just quickly apologise for the mass amount of pictures and the awful footage, filming really isn't my strong point!

Stomp, stomp, I've arrived!

I have been lucky enough to get tickets to go and see the one and only Jessie J live at Edinburgh Castle! I am so excited! The tickets are stuck up on my fridge with a yellow duck magnet, always the safest place to keep things I think.
I can't even put into words how excited I am, I literally have butterflies writing about it!
But I have a dilemma, what should I wear?!
I have two outfits in mind, but I don't know which is best, I need HELP, FAST, because I'm going on Wednesday!

Bearing in mind that my hair will have gone back from pink, to brown. I was toying whether to get my hair done on the day (The hairdressers only spot before the concert was at one o'clock on the actual day!) or go and hang around to see if I could meet Jessie, but my auntie made a good point, she said "Molly, always think 'what would Jessie do?' and in this situation would she wait around to possibly meet a celeb or get her hair done? SHE WOULD GET HER HAIR DONE!"
And she's right, my hair deserves to go back natural, it's looked liked Rudolph's nose for too long!

If My Life Were An Album...

Okay so music is one thing I can't live without, I am obsessed, it's like a drug. I live by the saying "If the music is too loud, you're too old." because it's true.

I thought it would be interesting to do a "playlist" of my life, but I've done a lot in my fourteen years, and listened to a lot of music. So this is going to be one long playlist!
So here it is, if my life were an album, this would be it.

"Unfinished letters, unsent messages"

The album of my life so far.

So I guess the best place to start is my birth, now my song selection for this is a little weird, you can thank my brilliant auntie for that! Obviously I don't remember being born, but the song "Laserlight" by Jessie J reminds my auntie of the day I was born. Once I was born my mum was recovering so my auntie was in a room with me on my own, and I opened my big brown eyes and stared up into hers. So the lyrics

 "In the blink of an eye, 

I was falling from the sky, 

in the blur, 

you took my breath away, 

and my heart starts beating, 

and my lungs start breathing,

 and the voice in my head starts screaming, 

I'm alive!" 

Remind her of the first few minutes of my life.

2. My second track is for London. As a very young girl I lived in East London, it was only for a very short time, but I still claim to be a Londoner, hold on to your roots I say (;

I love London, it's such a diverse city and I plan to live there again some time in my life.

So my second track is Londoner by Chip.

I enjoy dancing around the house singing the chorus at the top of my lungs, annoying everyone around me!

3. So after being born in Canterbury, then moving to London, my parents ditched the rough city lifestyle and moved to North Berwick in Scotland. I have quite a few memories of living here, walking down by the beach, starting at two nurseries "The Honey Pot" and "Busy Bees", (What is it with people giving nurseries and child care facilities bee related names?) spending time with my friend Louise, or as I called her "Weez" and countless trips to the "Birdy Centre" I honestly don't know that places real name, it was always the birdy centre to me!

So because I clearly have to go for a beach themed song for my third track, I'm not going to, because I don't like being obvious!
 I have chosen Only Love by Ben Howard because this is such a relaxing song!

4 & 5. After living in North Berwick we moved to a small town, it was here that I enjoyed my last year of nursery and my first two years of Primary School. I made some brilliant friends and remember playing imaginary games like "The magical far away tree" with my best friend Amy and "The spaghetti monster"  with Amy and our friend Aaron. Me and Amy were inseparable, we did everything together, from saving the world as super heroes to swimming lessons, from swapping toys to hiding from the witch next door! We prided ourselves in our ability of find things, looking back on it it was all junk, but when we were little it was so exciting to find a mini teddy or a jelly car air fresh or even just sweets. Once whilst waiting for our swimming lesson we found two pounds in the crack of a rock. I loved Amy and it feels so weird to be writing this and not knowing what's going on in her life, we went to different schools after primary two, we promised to keep in touch but it didn't happen. It's sad really, we were going to be each others maids of honour at our weddings, but friendships sometimes don't last. I enjoyed my time with Amy, and songs four and five are based on my time with her.

Song four is the YMCA, I remember singing super loud to this with her, not caring what anyone thought! And song five is *major cringe* The Cheeky Song by The Cheeky Girls, we were young and didn't understand that the song was pretty inappropriate to be singing at the top of our lungs where ever we went!

6. After primary two I moved to another small town and joined a new primary school, I started in the Christmas term and soon made friends, so my sixth song will have to be we wish you a merry Christmas!

 

7. My seventh song is Cotton Eyed Joe, in primary one of the highlights of my year was always sports day! I have never been a sporty girl, but primary sports day was always fun, with the sack race, the egg and spoon and so many more funny races! The only race I have ever won is the three legged race, me and my friend Alice from Velvet Nature were pros at that race! We won two years in a row!

But the best part of sports day was the games afterwards! One of my most fond memories is definitely dancing like a mad thing to cotton eyed joe dripping wet after a water fight!

8, 9 & 10. Now I'm not going to lie, the rest of primary flew by so quickly and I don't remember much, up until primary seven. I had a great time in primary seven and my best memories are of our "Rock Band" topic, where we split up into groups and formed pretend rock bands, we had to do everything from designing albums to planning world tours! It was brilliant! My band was called FlashBack, and that was when my slight emo/scene obsession developed. So my songs for primary seven are The Captain by Biffy Clyro, Orange Crush by R.E.M and That's What You Get by Paramore.

11. My eleventh track is about my first year in secondary. I hated it. Absolutely hated it. Enough said. So my eleventh track it Another Brick In The Wall by Pink Floyd.

12. My twelfth song stands for my second year in secondary school. I hated this year as well. I got bullied because I cut my hair super short, people said I was a lesbian. I got called so many names "Dyke" "Faggot" "Lesbo" "Boy" "Justin Beiber" "Homo" "Dylan" and probably more, I've tried to block it all out! I couldn't walk into class without being ridiculed, I got water, spit, Lucozade and god knows what else tipped on my head on the bus ride home. I hated it so much.

But it made me stronger, so my twelfth song is almost taking the mickey out of myself, I've chosen Dude Looks Like A Lady by Aerosmith. Of course I wasn't a boy who looked like a girl, but I was a girl who supposedly looked like a boy.

13. My thirteenth track is represents how I felt a little while ago, I don't really want to go into detail, but I have chosen Nobody's Home by Avril Lavigne. 

14 & 15 My fourteen and fifteenth and final tracks are for my cousin Hugo, he is not only my cousin but my best friend, we have had so much fun as children! We had a club "The Love And Hate Club", learnt how to speak "Eggy", built countless dens and rafts and machines, went on camping trips to the "secret beach", lit the biggest craziest fires, make fire torches, had fun, got in trouble and generally had great fun!

Track fourteen is Too close by Alex Clare, because this was our clubs "war chant", cute. And track fifteen is Smoke On The Water by Deep Purple because we loved that song from a very young age and used to beg our dads to play it "As loud as the car radio can and open all the windows so everyone can hear!" We were brilliant fun :P

Ones to watch this summer.

Music is another thing I love. I live for music, and I need music to live. (okay that's maybe a small exaggeration, but I don't think I go a day without my music) It's just such a wonderful thing and can set the scene for any occasion.
I've always had quite a good eye(or you could say ear) for picking out artists before they blow up and become big. So I've decided to do a list of people I think will become big this summer and just quirky undiscovered artists I think you should check out (:

• AlunaGeorge have got to be the coolest music duo out there and the fact that they are signed to Universal shows I'm not the only one to think that! But I've been an AlunaGeorge fan well before they featured on that Disclosure track "White Noise". Remember when they released their song "Just A Touch" last year? No? I didn't think you would. AlunaGeorge have been on the scene for a while now, but thanks to good old Disclosure they have finally broken into the public eye! I'm sure you will all have heard "Attracting Flies" and LOVED it, so go check out some of their older music, it's just as good, I promise! Oh and don't forget to pre-order their latest album "Body Music" from the Universal website, NOW!

• Amplify Dot, A.Dot, Dotty, Ashley. She may look cute but believe me you wouldn't want to get in the way of this girls bars, they could break you! You're probably wondering where you recognise her from, am I right? Well here's a clue "SPEED THROUGH LIFE IN A PURPLE HAZE, LIVE FAST, DIE YOUNG LIKE KURT COBAIN!" Her single "Kurt Cobain" got A LOT of attention and lets just say not all of it was good... Her video was spammed with quite a lot of comments from twelve year old "Nirvana fans" saying she was being disrespectful to Kurt, Puhleazeeee you aren't even old enough to know who Kurt Cobain was hunny so go crawl back to your play pen. The opinions were mixed, but personally I think Cobain would be happy to have a song "about" him, it seems like he was all for music. But that being said A.Dot cleared up in an interview that the song was not about Kurt, it was just based on his legacy. She watched a documentary and a film about him and was inspired, so I think good on her. I guess I am a little biased though, I am a HUUUUUUGE Dotty fan, I used to swear I would marry her one day *cringe*. But not in a stalkerish "I'm a Directioner and I WILL marry Niall no matter what you say" sort of way, more of in a "I just view you as a normal person and look up to you, think you are very musically talented and respect you" way. Yeaaaaaah. Right moving on swiftly and back to the music. A.Dot's mixtape "Dotty's World" is well worth a listen and not long after that mixtape she was featured on The Female Takeover, one of the sickest YouTube videos out there. I really could go on for ever but I won't but please, check her out because she's going to be mahoosive!

• Etta Bond well this girl is a crazy sound machine. I've been following her for a while and it's been amazing to watch her grow! She is so musically talented, her hair has seen more colours that Picasso's paint brush and no one can rock a beanie like her. It's something about the voice and the look that is so captivating, she's like a drug, once you start you can't stop. Her EP "Emergency Room" with Raf Riley is nuts and features the song "Boring Bitches" which I promise you will feel the need to sing at least once in your life! She's worked with LOADS of people including Devlin when she featured on his song "Love Cards". This girl is going to be big big big!

• Leah Mcfall. I can't help but kick myself so hard whenever someone refers to her as "that girl off the Voice", because yeah she is "that girl off the Voice" but she is also the girl I was in touch with last year because I realised how deeply talented she was. I was trying to get her to come and perform at a charity gig I was organising, and I was so close. It was one of those moments that I wished I had a record label because I would have snapped her up so quickly. Don't get me wrong I am OVER THE MOON she is doing well on the voice but I'm just mad at myself for not acting on my instinct last year, because she was my big thing. I was acting like her own little one  girl street team, practically forcing people to subscribe to her and like her youtube videos. I was talking to her on twitter and through email, I knew she had big things coming for her and I was right. So please, vote for Leah, because she will not let you down!

• Kelz TBK. This man is sick, crazy, dope, dench and completely nuts. Not only can he rap but he can draw too! I have been following him since the very start of his journey and hope he can do well, he deserves it so much, he's such a genuine guy, his song "Like An Angel" is about his mum! He will do big things for British music if only he could break into the industry! So go download his mixtape from his website, please? It's free and we all love free things, eh?
